Peter Jackson

Just a couple of weeks ago, director Peter Jackson came to San Diego Comic-Con to give fans a glimpse of what is to come this December in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, as well as the “last days” of shooting The Hobbit films. It was there that the acclaimed director started talking about how he actually wants to shoot more footage for The Hobbit, which got everyone talking about whether this would mean more material for future Extended Editions of the two films on Blu-ray and DVD, or if he actually might somehow turn his two-part film adaptation into a trilogy.

At the time, he didn’t seem to know what form this could take on, if it were to happen at all. Most seems to think that, if it were to occur, Extended Editions would be more likely to happen than the creation of an entire third film. Well, as it turns out, The Hollywood Reporter is now reporting that talks have indeed begun between Peter Jackson and Warner Brothers to somehow turn the two Hobbit films into a trilogy. Read on for a break down of how it has come to this point, and what this could mean for the franchise.

Total Recall

While Warner Brothers’ The Dark Knight Rises is the film on everyone’s minds right now (and will probably continue to be so for weeks to come), Columbia Pictures’ Total Recall is probably the first film on the horizon with the potential to push Batman down to #2 at the box office (although it is almost certain it won’t make nearly as much money). Based on everything we have see in various trailers for the film, the latest adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s classic short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale actually looks pretty cool.

The film’s latest behind-the-scenes featurette highlights the action, and makes for a nice little primer for when we finally get to see it August 3rd. Hit the jump to check it out!

Peter Jackson Comic Con 2012

Director Peter Jackson has just released his latest video blog for The Hobbit films, which documents what it was like for Jackson and the cast to be a part of San Diego Comic-Con this year, as well as a bit of what Comic-Con attendees got the chance to see during the Hall H panel for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which mostly included video of the last days of principal photography on the films. We get a brief glimpse of finished footage from the film, and then we take a stroll around Stone Street Studios to see the city of Dale from The Hobbit, as well as the Goblin layer and a few other set pieces. The video ends with various final farewells on the set, making for some really touching moments. Hit the jump for yet another delightful, fun-filled video blog straight from Middle Earth!

Man-of-Steel

This weekend, moviegoers who got the chance to see Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises got the chance to preview one of two teaser trailers for director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, which Nolan is producing. The two teasers are basically the same in terms of footage, with one featuring a voice-over by Kevin Costner, who plays Jonathan Kent, the adoptive father of Clark Kent/Superman, and one with Russel Crowe lending his voice to the preview as Superman’s biological father, Jor-El, from the planet Krypton.

Both are worth a look, and definitely get this blogger quite anxious to see the new, darker version of Superman that Warner Brothers is going for. I hope this take on the Man of Steel will do well for DC Comics and Warner Brothers, as the last Superman film, Superman Returns, ended up not being a financial success in the eyes of the studio. I actually enjoyed the film quite a bit, but what are you going to do, right? Hit the jump for the first teasers for Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot.

dark knight rises

Ever since director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight blew everyone away back in 2008, creating an even more perfect film than its ground-breaking predecessor, Batman Begins, fans have not only been waiting with bated breath for the last four years to see the epic conclusion of Nolan’s take on the Caped Crusader, but also with an extreme sense of uneasiness. Could Nolan take us to the next level and top The Dark Knight? Could we really have a perfect trilogy on our hands? The answer is, not quite, but pretty darn close.

dark knight trilogy

When we finally own all three of director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight films on blu-ray and have our Batman marathons, it will work in a similar fashion to The Lord of the Rings trilogy in that it will feel like one gigantic film. These epic “comic book” movies can really be looked at as one big story arc with a beginning, middle, and an end.

A new trailer has been released (yes, another trailer) that takes a unique approach to The Dark Knight Rises, in that it does not just show us clips from the new film, but illustrates just how exactly this big story arc runs throughout all three Dark Knight films. You really see just how the trilogy will feel when watched back to back.

I don’t think I have ever been more excited to see The Dark Knight Rises than after watching this trailer. Hit the jump to check out five and a half minutes of sheer awesomeness!

after earth

I know what you’re thinking: “Why would I care about anything director M. Night Shyamalan does, when he hasn’t made a good film for years?” Believe me, I have asked myself that same question over and over again with each new film he has released since Lady in the Water (I actually enjoyed that film), and I realize that many haven’t even cared for his films since Unbreakable, or even The Sixth Sense.

But it must be admitted that his latest film, After Earth, does have an intriguing premise, and it helps that actor Will Smith has been cast as the lead character of the movie. The film takes place one thousand years into the future after Earth has been devastated by various cataclysmic events, and Earth’s inhabitants have been transferred to a new world called Nova Prime. Hit the jump to see a promo video for the film depicting a Facebook timeline documenting various fictional historic events that lead up to when the film takes place.

Kevin Tancharoen

Director Kevin Tancharoen, who directed last year’s successful Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, announced yesterday at San Diego Comic-Con that there will be a Season 2. Based on the popular Mortal Kombat video games, Season 2 of the online series will apparently focus on the MK Tournaments, unlike Season 1, which centered primarily on setting up the tournament’s major players. Hit the jump to watch the video announcement – which, by the way is actually quite comical.

walking dead season 3

Season 2 of AMC‘s The Walking Dead seemed to be hit or miss for many fans of the show. Some claimed the season moved along too slowly in the first half, with the main cast meandering around Hershel’s farm for way too long. On the other hand, while they remained at the farm until the very end, most people also thought the second half of Season 2 was some of the best television entertainment ever.

Whatever you may have thought about last season, the new four-minute trailer for Season 3 that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con today makes it look like it will top anything we have seen before. Fans, you are going to love this! Hit the jump to watch!
