Ever since Peter Jackson’s plan for adapting J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit into a film was revealed as being more than one film, we all wondered if it was even necessary. After all, it’s only one book instead of three, and written with a younger audience in mind than what The Lord of the Rings was intended for. But once we were informed that Jackson and company would be drawing from the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings to flesh out the story, things made a whole lot more sense.

However, when the announcement came earlier this year that Jackson’s two-film adaptation of The Hobbit was being turned into a trilogy, fans wondered if this adaptation will now end up becoming very bloated, and seem too exhausted by the time the third film comes to a conclusion. We were offered an explanation that there’s really more to draw from the Appendices than people think, but even that seemed like a stretch to some.

My initial theory was that, in order for this to work properly, the films would actually have to be shorter than any of The Lord of the Rings films, which is something that I think many people hadn’t even considered. As it turns out, this is basically the case, as the running time for the first film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, has been revealed, and it is indeed somewhat shorter. Hit the jump to find out the running time!

Marvel’s The Avengers really was a game-changer for comic book movies this past summer, exceeding just about everyone’s expectations for what the film could be and grossing more than $623 million in the U.S. alone. Now that Phase One of the Avengers lineup has been completed, fans are eagerly awaiting what’s in store for the next set of films to be released leading up to The Avengers 2. While Thor: The Dark World is slated to hit theaters November of next year, Iron Man 3 is the first film of Phase Two that we have to look forward to, and is probably the most anticipated of the bunch.

In the first trailer for the film, which just debuted today, we get a glimpse of a darker Iron Man story. The stakes are a lot higher this time around since the events of The Avengers, the villains seem like more of a threat, and Tony Stark appears to be somewhat of a changed man because of it all. For being the first trailer for the film, there is quite a lot to behold and take in, and is definitely enough to get fans excited for the film’s release next May. Hit the jump to watch!

We’ve briefly seen Elijah Wood reprising his role as Frodo Baggins in the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but up until now, we haven’t really seen him up close in any images from the film. In a new batch of images from Cinemarcado, we finally get just that, along with some other great photos of Gandalf (Ian McKellen), as well as young Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman).

It really is amazing to see just how little Elijah Wood seems to have aged since we last saw him play Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King back in 2003. He really looks almost exactly like he did in that film, which will make his return to the role all the more believable in the bookend scenes he has with old Bilbo (Ian Holm) in the films. Hit the jump to check out the photos!

Back in the 90s, Chris Carter was a name that was inescapable for regular television viewers of the time. After creating The X-Files, one of FOX’s biggest hits of all time, it was clear the man had talent and could take TV to places it had never gone before. He also developed such cult hits as Millennium and Harsh Realm, but they unfortunately never really got the attention they deserved and were canceled far too soon.

Lately, however, Carter has been working his way back to TV. Last year, it was reported that he was developing a “female-lead mystery police thriller” titled Unique, which unfortunately ended up getting canned before it could ever get off the ground. Now, he’s back at it again, this time with a show more in the vein of The X-Files called The After, featuring a story centered around a mysterious event that contains elements of “science fiction, suspense, and real-world fear and paranoia,” according to Deadline. Read on for details!
