Well, I can’t say that this surprises me, but Lucasfilm has officially decided to postpone the 3D re-releases of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith until further notice, in order to focus 100% on producing Star Wars: Episode VII. Presumably, this means we will not get the original Star Wars trilogy in 3D any time soon either.

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace was re-released in February of last year in 3D, and Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were originally slated to be re-released this fall. Now, it appears that The Phantom Menace will be the lone 3D wolf in the saga for a good long while. Read on for the statement from Lucasfilm.

While the news broke two days ago over at The Wrap, it was officially announced late yesterday by Lucasfilm (via StarWars.com) that J.J. Abrams will indeed be directing Star Wars: Episode VII, the first Star Wars film under the Disney/Lucasfilm banner.

Lucasfilm also confirms speculation that writers Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark) and Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes) would be involved in the Sequel Trilogy, although they will act merely as consultants on Episode VII (I wouldn’t rule them out for VIII and IX, though).

In addition, the press release also answers the question of whether or not J.J. Abrams’ company Bad Robot would be involved, confirming the company will in fact produce the film along with Abrams’ longtime producing partner Bryan Burk and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. Read on for statements from Kennedy, as well as George Lucas and even Abrams himself!

In light of the nomination, the LA Times has posted three new featurettes highlighting the amazing creature effects of the Goblin King, Gollum, and Azog the Defiler. Head on over there now to watch all three!

Universal has just announced a release date for Jurassic Park IV. Produced by Steven Spielberg, and written by Rise of the Planet of the Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the film will be shot in 3D and is set for release June 13, 2014!

There has been speculation that, since no director has been chosen as of yet, that Spielberg may step up to the task, since it was recently announced that his latest project, Robopocalypse, has been put on hold. Perhaps he may be up for it?

In the meantime, you can check out the re-release of the original Jurassic Park, remastered in 3D this April to hold you over until Jurassic Park IV makes its debut next year.

Back in 1993, Chris Carter was a new name to the television business when he delivered the pilot episode for The X-Files, a science-fiction series that raised the stakes for what could be done with fictional storytelling on TV, and gradually became one of the Fox network’s biggest hits. By the time the show’s third season rolled around, it was clear to Fox that Chris Carter had practically become a household name, and that any new series with his name on it could potentially give the network its next groundbreaking success. In light of this revelation, Fox decided to give Carter another crack at developing something entirely new for the network that might captivate audiences just as much, if not more than The X-Files. Millennium was Carter’s bold response to that challenging proposition.
