Apple has uploaded the final domestic trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness, and it is definitely the best (and darkest) one yet. The trailer’s sole focus is on Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and his quest to capture the franchise’s newest villain, played by Benedict Cumberpatch, who is absolutely menacing here. And, as is the case with any new trailer done right, we get tons of great new footage here, including the U.S.S. Enterprise taking a lot of spectacular damage as it faces its foe in a dramatic showdown in space. Hit the jump to watch!

Two new featurettes have made their way online for The Hobbit Trilogy. The first comes from IGN, in which Andy Serkis (Gollum), James Nesbitt (Bofur), and Richard Armitage (Thorin) discuss what they know about the dragon Smaug. It isn’t much, but Serkis does go into detail about what it takes to perfect the art of motion capture, which will be used to create Smaug through the performance of actor Benedict Cumberbatch, and Nesbitt expects that it will “blow people away.” Armitage even claims to have begged to see more of the dragon, since his character would have seen more of it than the rest of his company of dwarves, but of course his pleading didn’t work. Smaug is completely under lock and key, even to the actors.

The second featurette comes from Yahoo! Movies, and puts the three actors on the spot regarding the long running time of the first film, An Unexpected Journey, which some critics had a difficult time with. While this particular featurette won’t give fans the type of detailed response we can expect to get from the various documentaries that will most likely be included with the upcoming extended edition release of the film due out later this year, it does touch briefly upon why one book had to be split into three parts, and that by the time we get to the climax of the trilogy (the Battle of the Five Armies in There and Back Again), we will realize that it was well worth it to take the time to develop the characters in the first film. I, for one, had no problem with the running time, so there needn’t be an explanation for me. But it is great that even the cast members have some idea why, and are willing to address it for those who don’t quite understand.

Anyhow, check out both videos after the jump!

Many questionable changes have been occurring over at Lucasfilm ever since Disney officially acquired the company this past year. Just a few weeks ago, it was announced that Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series would be winding down sooner than originally intended in the wake of concentrating on new Star Wars endeavors such as Episodes VII-IX as well as a new animated series set in an era previously unexplored in TV or film. After all of this, as well as the even more recent news of LucasArts shutting down to move to a licensing model for future Star Wars games, fans are definitely worrying about whether or not the recent Disney acquisition was really a good idea in the first place.

To perhaps shed a bit of positive light on the recent changes, The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni (pictured above, next to yours truly) recently gave an interview with RebelForce Radio‘s Jason Swank and Jimmy Mac about the recent decision to cancel The Clone Wars, and the future of Filoni’s career with Lucasfilm. As it turns out, Filoni revealed that he is currently involved with developing the new Star Wars animated series mentioned above! Hit the jump to read what he had to say on the matter!

A brand new featurette has debuted for director Joseph Kosinski’s latest film, Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, and Olga Kurylenko. This time around, Kosinski and Cruise discuss shooting the film for IMAX, and how viewing the film in the larger format will create a much more immersive and satisfying experience, since both the top and bottom of the frame will then be exposed to fill out the entire IMAX screen with the film’s breathtaking landscape shots. Hit the jump to watch!

Update: Another featurette for the movie has also emerged, detailing what it was like to shoot the vast landscapes of Iceland, and how the region’s 24-hour daylight proved to be quite useful for the shoot. Check out both featurettes below!

Last week, those who purchased The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on Blu-ray/DVD were given an access code to a live event over at over at TheHobbit.com, where fans could catch their first behind-the-scenes look at the next film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The event lasted for about an hour, and gave us all sorts of goodies to salivate over, such as our first look at Evangiline Lily’s Elven character, Tauriel, Orlando Bloom’s reprisal of Legolas, and even a preview of a completed scene featuring Gandalf the Grey and Radaghast the Brown delving further into the mystery of the Morgul Blade we saw in An Unexpected Journey. The event also took us on a tour of director Peter Jackson’s post-production offices, where we were shown some pre-viz being worked on, as well as motion-capture.

Jackson also answered quite a few fan questions, including some submitted by Lord of the Rings veteran Billy Boyd, and even Comedy Central’s own Stephen Colbert, who made sure to humorously exhibit his knowledge of Middle Earth with a long-winded, heavily-detailed inquiry. These questions, along with another fan question about constructing the middle film in a trilogy, are featured in a condensed, six-minute version of the live event that Jackson posted on his Facebook page, along with a peek at new scenes being shot, as well as some great artwork showcasing the realm of Mirkwood. While it’s not nearly as great as seeing the hour-long version of the video, and doesn’t show the new scene with Gandalf and Radaghast, it’s a great preview of what fans experienced last week. Check it out below!

For those of you who were disappointed by X-Men Origins: Wolverine, these newly-released trailers for James Mangold‘s The Wolverine make it seem like the film has just the right formula to make up for it.

In both the domestic and international trailers for the film, we get a glimpse of what Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) has been up to since X-Men: The Last Stand. Isolated in a moody, atmospheric Japanese setting and struggling against his own inner demons, the trailers shows that the film will deal with a tremendous amount of growth for the character, all the while delivering on all of the great comic book action we have come to expect from the X-Men franchise.

While both trailers generally convey the same thing, they are different enough from each other to give both a look. Hit the jump to watch!

Two new fascinating featurettes have made their way online for Oblivion, director Joseph Kosinski’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi film starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, and Andrea Riseborough.

The first featurette deals with recreating the sky view from the sky tower in the film using projected footage of real sky (shot at the summit of Maui’s Haleakalā volcano) to surround the tower, and why using blue screen to achieve the same effect would prove to be too problematic. The second featurette focuses on the bubble ship we’ve seen in the trailers, and what it was like for the actors to “fly” it. Both are enlightening and fun, and definitely worth a look. Two weeks ago, the disappointing news came that Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series would no longer air on the network, and that we would only be receiving “bonus content” to wrap up certain story arcs from the show. Thus far, there has been no word yet on just what exactly we’ll be seeing in these arcs, except for the preview clip we were shown when the announcement came, and we still do not know how we will be receiving said content.

However, TheForce.net‘s Eric Geller stated today that, according to his source, we will be receiving two different completed story arcs, which means that anything else Lucasfilm Animation (currently going through layoffs) was currently working on besides these two arcs will be scrapped. Read on for what Geller had to say on the matter.

Finally, after years of waiting for a real peek at director David Twohy’s Riddick (the third film in a series that first started in 1999 with Pitch Black, followed by The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004), we get our first real look at the film in a brand new teaser that was posted today on Riddick star Vin Diesel’s Facebook page. However, it’s only twenty-two seconds long.

Having said that, the trailer really does gives us a nice tease at what’s to come, and definitely shows that they are scaling the film down more to the level of Pitch Black, which was significantly less grand in scope than The Chronicles of Riddick in terms of its visuals. Twohy indicated as much back in 2009 when talking about the film’s lower budget. The tone seems to fit right along with the first film, which is great. Have a look at the first teaser below!

Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful is certainly a visual treat once we reach the actual Land of Oz with Oscar Diggs, actor James Franco’s character who eventually becomes the great and powerful wizard we all know from the original 1939 MGM musical. Every sequence is filled with color and beauty created by some of the most talented artists in both CGI and practical set design.

However, even before we reach the colorful widescreen portion of the film, we are treated with a delightful black and white opening credits sequence in a 4:3 aspect ratio (like the 1939 film) that is quite creative in its visual and musical presentation. It really serves as a great introduction into the kind of film we are in for when going into it, and lets us know that the creators behind Oz seem to have an incredible passion for the source material, whether it’d be the L. Frank Baum books or the previously-released Oz films.

Today, Disney has made this sequence available for all to watch online. It simply is great fun to watch, whether you have already seen the film or not. Check it out below!
