THE-HOBBIT-FAKE-BOFA-TITLE

Last week a rumor hit that the third film in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit Trilogy, There and Back Again, might get a new title, following a report that the title The Hobbit: Into the Fire was recently registered by New Line.

As it turns out, Peter Jackson himself revealed to the world through his Facebook page that indeed the title of the third film has changed, but not to Into the Fire. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is now the title of the third film, rather than The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Read what Jackson had to say about the change, as well as some brief details on the Extended Edition of The Desolation of Smaug below!

Chris Carter made his mark in television history in a big way with The X-Files and Millennium back in the 90s. Gale Anne Hurd became one of the biggest producers in film with The Terminator, Terminator 2, and Aliens, and more recently in television with AMC’s The Walking Dead. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the two TV/film legends have teamed up to create a new series for AMC titled Area 51. Seems right up Carter’s alley. Hit the jump for details!

Ninja Turtles Teaser

Attention, 80s kids! Our first real look at this summer’s new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is now online in the first teaser for the film. Produced by Michael Bay and directed by Jonathan Liebesman, this film will be the first Ninja Turtles live-action movie to feature the title characters using CGI and motion-capture effects, and I have to say, it looks both quite realistic – and also kind of creepy. Judging from the teaser, however, it does look like they are definitely pushing for the dark and gritty feel of the original comics, while still capturing the light-hearted essence of the original cartoon and movies. Forgetting the live-action sequels of the 90s, the first film proved that this concept can work quite well. Let’s hope they finally pull it off again. Hit the jump to watch the teaser!

It’s here. The first official full-length trailer for director Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla film has hit the web, and it has everything a fan could want, and yet still doesn’t show us much of the monster – which is great. We want to be teased mercilessly until the film’s debut in May.

In the new trailer, we mostly see more destruction, with Bryan Cranston’s character exhuding ominous warning via voice-over, coupled with the classic soundtrack from 2001: A Space Odessey (I know that sounds weird, given that this is not a space movie, but trust me, it works). The first teaser was great, but this one’s even better and will get you pumped. Hit the jump to watch!

About every few months, another interview with David Duchovny, Chris Carter, or some other cast or crew member of The X-Files surfaces discussing the possibility of a third film in the franchise, particularly one that would conclude the ever-popular “alien colonization” mythology storyline that the TV series first set into motion in the early 90s.

This time, we’re back at it with Gillian Anderson, who recently commented on the matter in an interview with IGN, saying that it’s possible the third film would not be about the alien mythology, and that, if the film happens, it probably won’t be until 2016. Read on for more!

It appears 2015 will be slightly less crowded as far as tent-pole movie releases go. Warner Brothers has just announced that the release date for Zack Snyder’s followup to 2013’s Man of Steel, tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman, has been pushed back from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016. One of the most incredible aspects of both The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit films are the musical scores composed by Howard Shore. These films would definitely lack the emotional impact they currently have if the films didn’t have that musical foundation to stand upon. The various themes Shore has created have stood the test of time, and he’s still working hard at creating new themes that are hopefully just as memorable.

In Peter Jackson’s latest production video, we get to take a look behind the scenes of orchestrating new music for Middle Earth, including themes for the characters Tauriel and Smaug. Hit the jump to watch!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first installment of Peter Jackson’s epic Middle-Earth Trilogy, was a film that took its time in getting to the point. By taking its cues primarily from J.R.R. Tolkien’s 300+ page novel, and referencing The Lord of the Rings appendices and other various notes from the well-renowned author that tie in with The Hobbit, Jackson managed to stretch out the first third of the story into a nearly three-hour film.

While many found that this approach enriched various aspects of the story that weren’t described in elaborate detail in the book (or glossed over entirely), others found the film to be quite tedious to sit through, snobbishly proclaiming that Jackson is taking a tightly-written young adult novel and turning it into a over-bloated cash cow over the course of three long films. Of course, many of those criticisms stemmed from the fact that many had no idea that this trilogy is based on more than just The Hobbit, and/or don’t understand the fine tuning that needs to be done when translating a book to film. Nevertheless, for better or for worse, A Unexpected Journey indeed had a slower pace.

So those who were nodding off during the first film for this very reason may be happy to know that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug gets a move on with the story quite quickly, tossing us right into the action by picking up right where the first film left off, with Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and his company of dwarves on the run from Azog the Defiler and his goon-squad of orcs as they make their way toward The Lonely Mountain in hopes of fulfilling their quest to reclaim their dwarven homeland of Erebor and the treasures held captive within by the dragon Smaug.
