Back in the 90s, Chris Carter was a name that was inescapable for regular television viewers of the time. After creating The X-Files, one of FOX’s biggest hits of all time, it was clear the man had talent and could take TV to places it had never gone before. He also developed such cult hits as Millennium and Harsh Realm, but they unfortunately never really got the attention they deserved and were canceled far too soon.
Lately, however, Carter has been working his way back to TV. Last year, it was reported that he was developing a “female-lead mystery police thriller” titled Unique, which unfortunately ended up getting canned before it could ever get off the ground. Now, he’s back at it again, this time with a show more in the vein of The X-Files called The After, featuring a story centered around a mysterious event that contains elements of “science fiction, suspense, and real-world fear and paranoia,” according to Deadline. It has been a while since PopcornMonster.com’s last report regarding the Back to Frank Black campaign and their efforts to get a movie made based on Chris Carter’s much beloved cult TV series Millennium, which starred actor Lance Henriksen (The Terminator, Aliens) as the main character, Frank Black, and ran for three seasons on the FOX network before it was canceled in 1999. While a movie still has yet to be green-lit, whether in the form of a feature film or TV movie, the movement still continues to gain support from Carter, Henriksen, series producer Frank Spotnitz, and countless fans all around the world.
BTFB‘s latest effort comes in the form of an extensive companion book to the series titled Back to Frank Black: A Return to Chris Carter’s Millennium, slated for release by the end of this month. The book includes forwards by Henriksen and Spotnitz, as well as an introduction by Carter. The book’s content consists of a number of interviews with the cast and crew from Millennium, including writers Glen Morgan and James Wong (who wrote some of my favorite episodes from the show), and even boasts an essay written by fan-favorite Brittany Tiplady, who played Frank Black’s daughter. Also included are various essays from a number of well-respected authors with a wealth of knowledge regarding the TV series, including award-winning media critic John Kenneth Muir, who recently published Horror Films of he 1990s last year.
For Millennium enthusiasts, this book is definitely a must-have, and a great way to show that the fanbase behind the series is still very much alive and well, and continues to gain new fans to this day. For a refresher of what the show was all about, as well as more info regarding the new book, hit the jump for a short video and press release!

I called it, and I’m sure many other Tolkien fans did as well. The second installment of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit has indeed been retitled.
Originally, when the project was a two-part film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel, the second film was called The Hobbit: There and Back Again. But obviously this title implies the end of the story, and therefore has now been officially reassigned as the title for the third and final installment of The Hobbit trilogy. Read on to find out what the new title of the second installment will be, as well as the official release date of the third film!

Originally, it was assumed that we would get one Star Wars film released in 3D every year for the next five years, providing Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace did well enough at the box office. The first prequel made over $100 million worldwide (approx. $44 million domestically) last Feburary, so needless to say, we’re definitely getting more Star Wars in 3D.
It was announced today via the Star Wars Facebook page that we are indeed getting Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones in 3D next year as expected, but the big surprise is that Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith will also be released in 3D in 2013 as well. Both films will make their 3D debut in theaters within mere weeks of each other, with Attack of the Clones 3D being released on September 20, 2013, and Revenge of the Sith 3D on October 11, 2013. Read on for more on the future of Star Wars in 3D!

Last year, both Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves – stars of classic comedies Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey – stated that a script was in the works for a third film in the series. Reeves told MTV that the story would catch up with Bill and Ted as middle-aged men who still haven’t written THE song that saved the world, and deal with them attempting to make it happen. He even hinted that time travel would once again be involved.
This past March, Winter revealed that the script, written by original Bill & Ted scribes Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson, has been finished, but that there was still no green light for the film. Now, Vulture is reporting that Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot is now attached to helm Bill & Ted 3. Read on for more!

Marvel fans have every reason to celebrate today, as it was announced today on the Walt Disney Investors Conference Call that Joss Whedon will be back to write and direct The Avengers 2. It wasn’t long ago that Whedon wasn’t entirely sure he’d be returning, due to the enormous amount of work that goes into such a film, but obviously the man did not shut the door on the opportunity completely. We can be sure that, after The Avengers made over $600 million in the United States alone ($1,461,368,487 worldwide), Disney/Marvel did everything they could to persuade Whedon to return.
Along with this news comes the tidbit that Whedon will also be involved in the rumored live-action Marvel television series for ABC set in Marvel cinematic universe. Looks like comic book geeks around the globe have much to look forward to for many years to come!
