We all knew it was only a matter of time before Avatar sank the Titanic for biggest money-making movie in the U.S. Well, as of yesterday, Avatar has taken in 601.2 million in the U.S., which beats Titanic‘s $600.8 million U.S. Box Office gross – making Avatar the biggest money-making film of all time (not adjusted for inflation).

In April ’09, I posted some news about Kevin Grevioux’s upcoming Darkstorm Studios graphic novel I, Frankenstein being adapted into a feature film. Well, Lakeshore Entertainment has picked up the script from Death Ray Films (which began developing the project last April) and has given the greenlight to produce the film. It will still will be directed by Patrick Tatopoulos (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans), with production beginning in July 2010!

The nominees for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony are quite exciting, particularly because this is the first time 10 nominees are allowed for the “Best Picture” category. I never thought I’d see this day. For years, James Cameron’s Titanic held the record for highest grossing movie of all time worldwide. (not adjusted for inflation). Today, Cameron beats his own record with his latest film, Avatar.
For twelve years, Titanic stayed on top with $1.843 billion worldwide. Now, Avatar has claimed the throne with $1.844 billion, just above Titanic, after adding on its earnings from this weekend and Monday. Avatar still has yet to beat Titanic in the U.S., but considering how it has stayed #1 at the box office for the last month and a half, it is well on its way.

So apparently some people who have experienced the spectacular 3-D world of James Cameron’s Avatar “have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora,” according to CNN‘s report from last week.

In an article from Variety, Warner Brothers President and COO Alan Horn states that The Hobbit may not be out as soon as we all hoped it would be. Looks like Peter Jackson’s eariler comments about the first film being released in December 2011 may end up not being entirely accurate after all.

While some people loved the fact that there were more robots in last summer’s mega blockbuster hit Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, many thought they went too far.
