Today, the official website for Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated film, The Dark Knight Rises finally launched, delivering quite an odd viral campaign for the film. If you go to the website, it takes you to a black page with an audio clip of strange chanting playing in the background. If you’re much, much smarter than I am, you’ll figure out that the audio file can lead you to a Twitter feed called @TheFireRises that sends out replies to users putting the hashtag #TheFireRises in a status update, which in turn takes user avatars to compose a mosaic that will eventually reveal an image of Tom Hardy as Bane. Whew!
While the Twitter feed is still sending out replies as of right now, thankfully someone got their timing screwed up and already posted the photo on The Dark Knight Rises Facebook page. Hit the jump to check it out!

Last week, some reports appeared online claiming that the Universal-Imagine-NBC film/TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower book series hit some snags and that the project was in turnaround (meaning it might not happen or could move to another studio home).
Yesterday, Universal stated that they are in fact keeping the project, but that the “snags” that were reported had to do with budgetary concerns the studio has. As of right now, producers Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman are working on trying to bring the budget down. Read on for more info and speculation on what this could mean for Universal’s epic project.

While answering the question of who was narrating Bilbo Baggins at the end of his first video blog (it was actually Martin Freeman), Peter Jackson inadvertently confirmed in a recent update on his Facebook page that Ian Holm will be reprising the role of old Bilbo Baggins in the films.
Not only that, but today he says that Rob Kazinsky, who was initially cast as Fili the dwarf, is now having to leave the production due to personal reasons, which means a replacement must be found to fill the role. Read on for the updates!

Zack Snyder, you sly one, you!
Originally, it was reported that General Zod would be the main villain in Zack Snyder‘s upcoming Superman reboot, now simply titled Man of Steel. Then, Snyder shot down those rumors saying that those reports were “just wrong” and that “the internet has no idea what’s going on.”
Well, apparently the internet does know what’s going on after all, because today Warner Brothers announced that actor Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire, Vanilla Sky) will in fact be portraying Zod in the film. Read on for the official press release!

This is the first time I have heard about this, but apparently there have been plans to remake Ed Wood‘s infamous Plan 9 from Outer Space (known for being “the worst film ever made”) for quite some time now.
Darkstone Entertainment, primarily known for making extremely low-budget independent horror films, announced some time in 2008 that director John Johnson would be remaking the film, simply titled Plan 9. It was originally slated for release on 9/9/2009 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original film, but that never happened. Now, it looks like production has in fact finally started on the film, according to The Mary Sue. You can even watch a teaser trailer for the “serious-minded” remake after the jump!

20th Century Fox’s upcoming Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes, has gone through quite a few different titles. First, it was Caesar, in reference to the main Ape character from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Later on, it was retitled to Caesar: Rise of the Apes. Then, it was changed yet again to simply Rise of the Apes.
Now, Comic Book Movie has learned that the title has been officially changed to Rise of the Planet of the Apes to help the movie tie in more with the original films (hopefully this is the last time they change it). Read on for more info!
