While Sam Raimi may be serving as producer on the new Evil Dead remake, his current directing job is a prequel to L. Frank Baum’s book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Titled Oz the Great and Powerful, the film stars James Franco as a small-time magician for a traveling circus with “dubious ethics” who finds himself transported to the land of Oz where he eventually becomes the “Wonderful Wizard” from Baum’s original classic story.
Also starring Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, Abigail Spencer and Joey King – the film just started principal photography in Pontiac, MI this week at Raleigh Michigan Studios. You can read the official plot synopsis (which, by the way, reveals the real name of the “Wizard”) within the press release after the jump!

Fans of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower books were already skeptical when it was first announced that producers Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman were working on a film/TV adaptation of the series. Not only is it incredibly ambitious to pursue filming such an epic story as The Dark Tower (let alone a trilogy along with a limited-run TV series to bridge the films together), but Howard, Grazer and Goldsman just seemed like an odd choice to helm the project in the first place. But when news broke that the project was delayed because of Universal’s desire to reduce the budget, requiring Goldsman to do script rewrites in order to accommodate the constraints, fans everywhere wondered if this already ambitious project would be severely hurt by all of it.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Howard and Grazer actually touched upon some of these issues, hoping to set the minds of fans at ease. Hit the jump for direct quotes addressing the budget constraints, delays, rewrites, and if the delays will impact actor Javier Bardem‘s role as the lead character of Roland Deschain in the project.

Star Wars has been all over the news lately ever since Star Tours: The Adventures Continue debuted in Orlando, Florida this past weekend. Recently, Kevin Pereira from G4’s Attack of the Show interviewed Disney Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald and film director George Lucas about what we can expect from the newly-updated ride (it hasn’t been updated since its debut in 1987) and, from what it sounds like, this is the Star Wars experience fans do not want to miss out on!
On the more interesting side of things, not only did they discuss the new ride, but Lucas also went into detail about why his 3D releases of the Star Wars films (starting next February with The Phantom Menace) will be much better than other recent releases of post-converted 3D movies, and also discussed the hang-up with the Star Wars live-action TV series and just how far along they actually are with it (the answer may surprise you!). Hit the jump to watch the interview!
