This isn’t much of a news report, but MTV recently sat down with David Duchovny about his upcoming film The Joneses, and of course the question came up of whether or not he would like to reprise his role as Fox Mulder in a third X-Files film. You can see what he had to say in the video below.
David Duchovny has said in the past that he would like to come back for another film, so it appears that he has not changed his mind.
Chris Carter, creator of The X-Files, as well as producer Frank Spotnitz have said they would love to do another film. Gillian Anderson (Agent Dana Scully) has also stated as much. FOX Chairman Tom Rothman has stated in the past (after I Want to Believe was released) that it is really up to Carter, Anderson and Duchovny if a third film gets made. So, since they all want to do it, what’s the hold up?!
I’m sure a third X-Files film doesn’t scream “blockbuster” to the folks at FOX, since I Want to Believe performed poorly at the U.S. box office in 2008 (although, it did make a decent profit overseas). However, I think if a third X-Files film gets made, and if it is marketed well, it could still do quite well if it were released at a time when not many other big movies are coming out (i.e. don’t release it when a film like The Dark Knight is in theaters).
All of them have said that if a third film gets made, it would return to the alien mythology storyline and deal with alien colonization of Earth in 2012.
