The first U.S. and U.K. trailers for director Paul McGuigan’s Victor Frankenstein have hit the web, and they both definitely depict a dark, yet fun take on the Frankenstein story for a modern audience. As Collider pointed out, this appears to be very reminiscent of the tone and sense of adventure that Guy Ritchie’s take on Sherlock Holmes first brought to the screen back in 2009, as I’m sure you’ll agree once you watch the trailers. However, the film does appear to be darker of course, fitting the subject matter perfectly. As a die-hard fan of the classic Universal Monsters, this actually looks really good!

Official Synopsis:
James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in a dynamic and thrilling twist on a legendary tale. Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.
It’ll be interesting to see where Igor’s story goes here, since we all know he has been depicted as a hunchback in the classic Frankenstein films, and the film is told from his perspective. Perhaps it’ll act as an origin story, telling us how exactly he came to be Dr. Frankenstein’s hunchback assistant? We’ll certainly find out later this year!
Victor Frankenstein stars James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein, and Daniel Radcliffe as Igor. The film hits theaters November 25th!
