Every comic and movie geek around the world knows how fans reacted nearly a month ago to the news of Ben Affleck being cast in Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman. Essentially, it was the same thing that happened to Michael Keaton, Heath Ledger, and Anne Hathaway with otherĀ BatmanĀ films (all three actors were viciously maligned before their film came out, and generally well-received after fans saw their work in context), and yet people seem to somehow think that their negative reaction to Affleck actually means something this time around. Who are they kidding?
Well, as expected, Ben Affleck feels the same way, and he has finally commented publicly on the news on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. You can check out the clip after the jump!
Ben Affleck on being cast as Batman:
Looks like Affleck is taking it in stride, as he should be.
As I said when the news first broke, Ben Affleck was not my first choice to play the new Batman. He wasn’t even A choice. I never would’ve thought of him as being Batman. But just because you cannot see it working, doesn’t mean it won’t work. Only by watching Zack Snyder’s film in context with his vision for it can we truly judge whether or not Affleck was the right choice. And even then, it still depends on how good Snyder will be at directing Affleck, and how great the script is. Until then, fans just have to hope for the best.
Zack Snyder’s followup to this summer’s Man of Steel, tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman (or Superman vs. Batman), is set to start filming early next year in Detroit, MI, USA.
