In what has to be the coolest news in a while for the X-Men film franchise, director Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2) tweeted today that both Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are in fact reprising their roles of Professor Xavier and Magneto, respectively, in Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. Read on for more!
Singer also confirmed via Twitter that actors James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are returning for the First Class sequel as well, meaning that we will have both young and old versions of Xavier and Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
This seems to confirm speculation even more that the movie will indeed be similar to the X-Men: Days of Future Past comic book, which features two different timelines that interact with each other. Either that, or the film will simply feature an old Xavier and Magneto reminiscing about the good ol’ days. My guess is that the first scenario is the more likely of the two.
This movie just keeps looking better and better! Stay tuned as more details emerge!
X-Men: Days of Future Past, directed by Bryan Singer, stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult. The film is slated to hit theaters July 18, 2014.
