For those of you hoping to catch more than just three frames of film from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness by the end of the year can now celebrate, as the first nine minutes of the film, as well as the first trailer, will be premiering December 14th. Read on for more info!
The first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness will be shown with IMAX 3D screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, similar to what Warner Brothers did with both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, when the first several minutes of the films were attached to IMAX screenings of I Am Legend and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol back in 2007 and 2011, respectively.
The trailer, however, will not be shown at the IMAX screenings of The Hobbit, but rather with non-IMAX screenings. So, depending on where you see The Hobbit will determine which bit of footage you will get from Star Trek Into Darkness.
Trek Movie states that, while the first nine minutes of the film won’t be shown online, the trailer will, and is expected to go viral the Monday after the premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It should also be noted that the trailer will be more of a combination of different parts from the movie, and not a condensed version of the first nine minutes that are showing in front of IMAX 3D screenings of The Hobbit.
Like other films from J.J. Abrams, Star Trek Into Darkness has been a well-guarded secret. Virtually nothing has been seen from the film (except that hilarious three-frame clip Abrams showed on Conan), and we still have no confirmation on the plot or the villain (currently rumored to be Khan). It looks like December 14th will be the day where we finally get a grasp on what exactly the film will be about.
