According to a highly-placed source close to the recently announced Star Wars: Episodes VII–IX, Harrison Ford is indeed open to the idea of reprising his role as Han Solo for at least Episode VII, slated to hit theaters in 2015. Read on for more info!
Fans have long since known that Ford, while grateful for the role, hasn’t been all that friendly to the character of Han Solo over the years. EW sites an interview he did with ABC in 2010 in which he commented, “As a character he was not so interesting to me.” In addition, at a 30th Anniversary charity screening of Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back that same year, Ford also said, “I don’t know that I understood it very well. I’m not sure I understand it yet…I was very happy to be involved. I was pleased to be a part of an ensemble.” The idea of Ford even being open to reprising Han Solo for any of the Star Wars Sequel films seems like nothing short of a miracle after hearing remarks like these.
Of course, the EW article reminds us that Ford actually wanted Han Solo to be killed off in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, which means that we shouldn’t be surprised if a contract for another Star Wars film (or films) would include a mandatory death scene for Solo. While this of course is not confirmed, it might be enough to bring back Ford for one last outing as the famed smuggler.
Perhaps this is what his reprisal might look like:
Okay, maybe not. But hey, maybe the above little bit on Jimmy Kimmel Live indicates that maybe Ford is warming up to the character after all?
Head on over to EW for the full article, which also confirms that Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are open for reprisals of their famed Star Wars roles as well. The article assumes the trio will pass on the torch in the new films down to a new generation of characters, which seems like the best approach to me, since the idea of a old Hamill, Fisher and Ford running around saving the galaxy seems like a bit of a stretch…
