The new film version of Rod Serling’s classic TV series, The Twilight Zone, has been struggling to get off the ground for years now, going through various writers, and now directors, with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves recently dropping out of the project in favor of directing Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. So it’s probably no wonder why not much has been made public regarding the plot, when the production seems to constantly have hurdles to leap over.

However, recent information has emerged online that gives us more to go on in terms of the story, which could mean things are finally coming together for the project. Read on for a very brief summary of the film!

Vulture recently posted the following plot description for the film:

“It follows a test pilot who winds up breaking the speed of light; when he puts down his craft, he discovers that he’s landed a bit late for supper — 96 years late.”

Of course, we can determine from this that the test pilot will most likely be an astronaut, meaning that the film will definitely be incorporating classic science-fiction story components from the series by crossing an outer space setting with an element of time-travel.

Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone lasted for five seasons, and was later rebooted in the 80s as well as early 2000s. A feature film, Twilight Zone: The Movie, was also produced as a sort of anthology movie in 1983, featuring remakes of classic episodes from the series directed by Joe Dante, Jon Landis, George Miller, and Steven Spielberg. The new film, currently being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company and distributed through Warner Brothers, will not be an anthology film, but will simply contain one, feature-length story.

Because the film is still under pre-production, now with no director attached, we still have a ways to go before, or even if the film gets off the ground. But now that plot details are emerging, perhaps we can expect things to get rolling sooner than later…

Stay tuned as more details emerge!
