It appears that things are really starting to come together for the film adaptation of Underworld writer Kevin Grevioux‘s upcoming graphic novel, I, Frankenstein. Last month, news broke that Aaron Eckhart had been cast as the Frankenstein monster, who, in this re-imagining of the classic Mary Shelley story, survives to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation and gets caught up in a centuries old war in between two immortal clans in a dark, gothic metropolis. Now, Variety reports that Bill Nighy, who starred in the Underworld films, is set to play a villain in the film. Read on for more info!
Variety expands on previous plot descriptions of the film, saying that the Frankenstein monster, Adam, is being hunted down by demons that want to “learn the secret of his creation in order to build an army of reanimated corpse demons,” and that Nighy’s villain is the “demon prince” tasked with tracking down Adam.
My question is, if these demons are just one of the “immortal clans” waging war, what creatures make up the other clan? We know that Grevioux has said in the past that Adam will somehow be involved with some of the classic monsters of lore like vampires, mummies, werewolves, etc. So, perhaps the other clan consists of these classic creatures, and Adam joins forces with them in order to defeat Nighy’s character and his minions?
Until further details are revealed, we shall continue to speculate!
Lakeshore Entertainment’s I, Frankenstein, directed by Stuart Beattie and written by Kevin Grevioux, is slated to hit theaters February 22, 2013.
