Trick 'r Treat

FEARnet has posted a great video just in time for Easter – celebrating the fact that it is half way to Halloween, of course.

Kicking off the countdown to their “24-hours of Trick ‘r Treat” event, this video features the character of Sam from the much-beloved Michael Dougherty horror anthology film playing a cruel, but hilarious Easter prank on a random, “squeaky-clean” family. Fans of the film will definitely need to check it out – only make sure you’re not eating anything while watching it…

Machinima.com has just launched its web series based on the Mortal Kombat video game franchise, titled Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Directed by Kevin Tancharoen, each of the nine-episode series will feature different characters from the games, with the first focusing on Major Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs and Lt. Sonya Blade (played by Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan, respectively).

If you are a fan of the franchise and are still bitter over the abysmal Mortal Kombat movies from the 90s, you’re in for a real treat with this new series. You can watch the first episode after the jump!

Michael Shannon

Zack Snyder, you sly one, you!

Originally, it was reported that General Zod would be the main villain in Zack Snyder‘s upcoming Superman reboot, now simply titled Man of Steel. Then, Snyder shot down those rumors saying that those reports were “just wrong” and that “the internet has no idea what’s going on.”

Well, apparently the internet does know what’s going on after all, because today Warner Brothers announced that actor Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire, Vanilla Sky) will in fact be portraying Zod in the film. Read on for the official press release!

plan 9_02

This is the first time I have heard about this, but apparently there have been plans to remake Ed Wood‘s infamous Plan 9 from Outer Space (known for being “the worst film ever made”) for quite some time now.

Darkstone Entertainment, primarily known for making extremely low-budget independent horror films, announced some time in 2008 that director John Johnson would be remaking the film, simply titled Plan 9. It was originally slated for release on 9/9/2009 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original film, but that never happened. Now, it looks like production has in fact finally started on the film, according to The Mary Sue. You can even watch a teaser trailer for the “serious-minded” remake after the jump!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

20th Century Fox’s upcoming Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes, has gone through quite a few different titles. First, it was Caesar, in reference to the main Ape character from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Later on, it was retitled to Caesar: Rise of the Apes. Then, it was changed yet again to simply Rise of the Apes.

Now, Comic Book Movie has learned that the title has been officially changed to Rise of the Planet of the Apes to help the movie tie in more with the original films (hopefully this is the last time they change it). Read on for more info!

Bill and Ted

Actors Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, stars of the Bill and Ted movies, have both publicly discussed the possibility of a third film in the last year or so, claiming that a script is currently in the works by the original writers of the first two movies. While many found this difficult to believe, Reeves recently told MTV that the writers are about six weeks away from turning it in!
