Those who have been following the news regarding Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot know that Henry Cavill has been cast as Clark Kent/Superman, Diane Lane as Martha Kent (Clark’s adoptive mother) and that a rumor has been floating around for the last couple of weeks that Kevin Costner might play Clark’s adoptive father, Jonathan Kent.
In an official press release issued today, Warner Brothers has now confirmed Costner‘s role in the film! Read on for details.
Director Zack Snyder said about casting Costner (from the official press release):
“Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest super hero of all time.”
Anyone who has seen Costner in Field of Dreams knows that the above statement couldn’t be more true. He’s perfect for the role.
In what Warner Brothers now simply refers to as their “upcoming Superman movie” (the project has been previously referred to as Superman: Man of Steel for the longest time, and still is on imdb.com), Snyder has stated that this new film will assume there have been no previous Superman films, staying true to Superman canon but completely rebooting the movie franchise.
Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot, produced by Christopher Nolan, is slated to hit theaters in December 2012. Stay tuned as more details emerge!!!
