Well, this is it!
Pretty much every fan of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was let down that only the theatrical versions of the films were released on Blu-ray last year (hence the low sales). Collider reports that those versions were also “mediocre” transfers, so most people really had no reason to pick up the set.
However, we all knew that the Extended Editions were coming, and we now know that they will be released either later this year or some time next year in one set, and that it is available for pre-order now! Hopefully these transfers are better. Hit the jump for details as well as a “trailer” for the release!
There appears to be no new special features included with this new set, making the only difference between this set and the previously released DVD Extended Edition Set is the Hi-Def Blu-ray transfers of the films and the digital copies that are included. The only features to be included are those from the DVD EE Box Set. Honestly, after the hours and hours of great special features they gave us already with that set, do we really need anything else for this one?
