A story emerged today from The Hollywood Reporter that director David Slade (30 Days of Night, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) is now officially attached to direct yet another vampire flick titled The Last Voyage of the Demeter! Read on for details!

For those of you not in the know, the story (written a decade ago by Season of the Witch scribe, Bragi Schut), chronicles the voyage of the “Demeter,” the ship that transported Count Dracula from Transylvania to London in Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula. In that story, strange events occur on board the ship, including the crew gradually getting taken out one by one by the infamous Count until it washes ashore in London, leaving only the dead body of the Captain tied to the ship’s helm.

As a die-hard fan of the Dracula story (as well as every major old-school Universal monster picture ever made), I cannot wait to see this – especially since Slade is now on board to direct. While I did not care to see his Twilight film, I absolutely loved 30 Days of Night, so it will definitely be interesting to see him take on a period horror film.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter, directed by David Slade, co-stars Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace, with the lead actor yet to be determined. The film is currently slated for release some time this year, however I am expecting it to actually get released in 2012.
