Last month, the web was swirling with the news that Ridley Scott‘s Alien prequel supposedly became an entirely new science-fiction film called Prometheus due to script revisions at the hand of LOST writer Damon Lindelof.
While the film is in fact now called Prometheus, actor Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), who will star in the film, said to MTV today that the movie is still connected to the Alien films. Hit the jump to watch the interview!
Previously, in reference to the evolution of the script, Ridley Scott said that fans “will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.” This statement created quite a bit of confusion amongst the fanbase, but based on Fassbender‘s comments, the best I can figure is that the film is simply related to the original Alien films. Perhaps it will just act as a spin-off that takes place before the original Alien, all the while still taking on that “new, grand mythology and universe” that Scott referred to. Only time will tell!
Prometheus, directed by Ridley Scott, stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and more recently Charlize Theron. It is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide June 8, 2012.
