Many trailers are being released this month for next year’s most anticipated films (Transformers 3, Reel Steel and Thor to name a few). One film PCM has not reported on as of yet is Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga. The official trailer has hit the web over at Yahoo! Official Plot Synopsis (from Screen Crave):

“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise -this time in Disney Digital 3D(TM). In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love-or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.”

I’m one of those folks that really enjoyed all three of the previous films in the Pirates franchise (although I still enjoy Curse of the Black Pearl the most) and, despite this new film having a new director and not being shot in the Caribbean this time around, it looks like On Stranger Tides will fit right in with the previous films – not just in picking up where the third film left off with Sparrow searching for the Fountain of Youth, but also in tone and scope.

Hopefully people will really enjoy this one, as there are currently plans to film a fifth and sixth installment as well if this one is successful. Personally, I can’t get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow and pirates in general, so bring it on!

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, directed by Rob Marshall, stars Johnny Depp, Ian McShane, Penélope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush. It hits theaters nationwide May 20, 2011!
