In an interview with Geoff Boucher from Hero Complex, director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception) revealed the title for his third “Batman” film and also who will NOT be the new villain. Hit the jump to reveal all!
The title of the third Batman film is The Dark Knight Rises, according to Nolan. He also revealed that the rumors of the “Riddler” being the film’s new villain are false. At this point, no one really knows who it will be except those involved in writing the film.
While the Riddler was the most obvious choice to possibly top the “Joker” as the main baddie, I find it refreshing that Nolan and the gang ended up taking on the challenge of going with someone less expected. In fact, it makes me all the more curious as to just who they have in mind to be Batman’s new rival.
While they still could go with a famous villain like the “Penguin,” I think that they might go for a lesser-known character, like “Deadshot,” as there would be less expectations from fans and the writers would have more flexibility in shaping the villain to fit the world that they have created for Batman.
I do love the title they’ve chosen for the film, and it makes sense in relation to how the last film ended with Batman on the run. We all expected Batman to at least attempt to regain his image of the hero in the third film, and it appears that this is exactly what is going to happen. I cannot wait for the Dark Knight’s triumphant return on July 20, 2012!
Head on over to Hero Complex for more on the film, including Nolan’s choice of going with the IMAX format over 3D for The Dark Knight Rises.
