BBC Two has officially announced a new comedy series from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (The Office, Extras) entitled Life’s Too Short, starring Warwick Davis (Return of the Jedi, the Harry Potter series). The pilot episode has already been shot, and six more 30-minute episodes are set to film some time next year. Gervais and Merchant are on board as executive producers, and will also write and direct the episodes. Read on for details!
From The Official Warwick Davis Website:
As with the pilot, the series centres on Warwick Davis – whose credits include Star Wars and the Harry Potter series – and who is one of Britain’s pre-eminent dwarf actors. It is an observational comedy following Warwick’s day-to-day frustrations, but still managing to find the optimism and warmth in a small world where big things happen.
I recently got the opportunity to screen the pilot, and I must say that it is one of the funniest, most endearing British comedies I have seen in a while. Britain definitely has a great new show to look forward to, and I truly hope that there will be more seasons to come.
There has been no word on whether or not the show will make it to the U.S., but Davis has stated that they are working on making it happen. It makes perfect sense for it to air in the States, since both Extras and the original version of The Office have quite a bit of a following over here. Hopefully, it all works out and America gets the chance to see it as well.
It really is wonderful to see Warwick Davis in this kind of a role, as it is really rare that audiences get to see what he actually looks like! After playing an ewok, a leprechaun, a paranoid android, a goblin bank teller and other various roles of disguise – I am sure it is a breath of fresh air for him as well!
