During my recent visit to Orlando, Florida, I went to the Universal Studios theme park as well as its sister park, Islands of Adventure – which includes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction.
Word on the street is that this attraction (which is incredible, by the way) will be getting the expansion treatment by 2012 or 2013. But what does that mean for other attractions surrounding it? Hit the jump to find out.
According to MuggleNet.com, one of their readers talked with a Universal guide who said that The Lost Continent attraction, which includes The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad stunt show as well as the special effects show Poseidon’s Fury, would be replaced by additions to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
While most will probably find this to be a welcome change to Universal’s Islands of Adventure, I’m actually a little bummed by this possible expansion, since I actually really enjoyed the Poseidon’s Fury special effects show, and I totally dug the layout of The Lost Continent portion of the theme park in general. It felt like I was roaming around the Island from LOST.
On the other hand, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is admittedly the coolest attraction at the park. I had a blast just walking through Hogsmeade village, let alone everything else they had there. Hogwarts School is really amazing, with its talking paintings of wizards, amazing architecture and, of course, the incredible simulation ride you can go on where it really feels like you’re flying with Harry Potter and battling Dementors.
My feeling is that the rumor is true and that The Lost Continent will become a thing of the past. While we don’t know for sure at this point, I suspect we’ll get an official announcement some time within the next year.
