Back to the Future II_Power Laces

As Back to the Future fans know, part of the second film in the trilogy takes place in the year 2015, and we all wanted the cool futuristic gizmos featured in the movie like hoverboards and flying cars.

Well, the year 2015 is not that far off, and, while we probably won’t have flying cars or hoverboards by then, Nike is currently working on a patent to develop self-lacing sneakers – very similar to what Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future II. Read on for details!

According to MSNBC.com:

“…the automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper. The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper.”

“Which is to say, you slip a switch, and the shoe tightens as if you just pulled and tightened conventional laces.”

The article goes on to say that the shoe will naturally require a power source with an on-board battery, and that it will have either a USB or min-USB to charge the shoe. How cool is that?

There is, however, no word on when, or even if it will actually go into production. But hey, here’s to hoping that 2015 will bring us great things! Head on over to MSNBC.com for the full article!
