Yesterday, a rumor hit the web that Harrison for would be joining the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of the comic book Cowboys & Aliens. Well, today the rumor has been confirmed to be true by the director himself, Mr. Jon Favreau. Harrison Ford is in!
Here is Favreau’s latest tweet regarding the matter:
@Jon_Favreau: ” Please stop asking if Harrison Ford is in Cowboys & Aliens. Okay? He is. Please don’t tell anybody.”
To bring you up to speed on this whole thing, the story is set in the Old West, where “settlers and Native Americans wage a bloody battle for control of the land. But when the Earth is threatened by conquerors from the stars, these sworn enemies must work together to save all humanity.” Star Trek scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, along with Lost writer Damon Lindelof, are currently writing the script and Daniel Craig has been cast in the lead role of Zeke Jackson – a “former Union Army gunslinger.”
Just who exactly Harrison Ford will play in the film has not yet been officially confirmed. However, /Film wagered a guess yesterday that he may play the role of Alan Cross, who is “head of the Silver City Homesteader’s Bureau”, “town founder, mayor, president of the chamber of commerce, owner of the local silver mining company, and, ah, an elligible bachelor.” (Update: Ford has now been confirmed to be playing the character of Colonel Dolarhyde in the film)
I have never read the comic book (although anyone can check it out online at drunkduck.com), so why am I intrigued by this, you ask? Three reasons: Jon Favreau, Harrison Ford and the fact that it is titled Cowboys & Aliens! It can’t get any better than that!
Cowboys & Aliens is slated to hit theaters nationwide in the U.S. July 29, 2011.
