It has been circling around the web that this year’s season of FOX’s hit television show 24 could possibly be the last. Also, it has been speculated that NBC might pick up the series from FOX in order to prolong the show instead of letting the series come to a close this year.
Well, after much speculation and waiting from the fans, FOX has officially confirmed that the current season of 24 is actually the end and that NBC will not be picking up the series for the network. However, Kiefer Sutherland, who plays the legendary Jack Bauer on the show, confirmed another rumor that has been floating around to be true: The end of this season will indeed lead into a feature film version of the series!
Here’s what Sutherland had to say:
“We wanted to create a definitive end for Jack Bauer,” explains Sutherland. “Since we do have the intention to make the feature film, it would lead into that and certainly set that up.”
He continued that thought with this statement:
“Something we’ve dealt with in the series is how the crisis always has to come to us because we don’t have time to move anywhere in a real time world,” he continued. “In a two-hour (movie) representation of the 24 world, planes, trains, and automobiles all of a sudden become a factor because you are not required to go scene by scene in real time. That’s something I can say I am very excited about.”
It has been talked about for quite a while that a feature film version might happen and that it would be a two-hour representation of a 24-hour day. Finally, it looks like it is really going to happen.
I think the series has run its course. I really hope this season ends well and can at least live up to last season, since last season was really great. And having it lead into a movie version of the series could be really cool. Jack Bauer is a perfect action hero for the big screen!
I know that plenty have complained that it just won’t be the same without the “real-time” aspect that the show had. But for me, that was never the main reason I loved the series. It was the characters and action-packed stories with surprising twists and turns that kept me interested. So I am totally open to a feature film.
