What’s this? George Lucas is producing a CGI-animated musical? Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, this appears to be the case.
THR claims the musical is an untitled, top-secret animated project in pre-production over at Skywalker Ranch and is being directed by Kevin Munroe, who directed 2007’s animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, TMNT. The screenplay is penned by David Berenbaum, who wrote Elf and The Spiderwick Chronicles.
Lucasfilm has not revealed anything about the animated musical except that it features “fairies” as a part of the story, and it is “expected to feature music from a variety of sources.”
George Lucas has been hard at work lately with overseeing The Clone Wars animated series as well as the upcoming Star Wars live-action series, and has also been producing the film Red Tails. Top that with coming up with a story for Indiana Jones 5, and it becomes clear that he is quite the busy guy already. So I am surprised that he would tackle yet another project. But so far, it looks like this is happening.
I am actually quite curious about this and hope to hear more confirmation about it soon, as it would be a first for Lucas to produce a musical.
