Last Week, Sigourney Weaver commented on Ghostbusters 3 to Channel 4 News (UK), and it has stirred quite a lot of speculation on the web, particularly her comments on Bill Murray’s role in the film. A couple of days ago, she was interviewing with MTV about James Cameron’s Avatar, and they asked her to clarify more on her Ghostbusters 3 comments. You can watch the interview below.

Based on this interview, it sounds like she is not clear on what Bill Murray’s role will be, although she says that he could come back as a “Slimer” character – the same type of character that slimed him in the first film.
That’s actually quite funny, although I hope it would not be for the whole film.
It sounds like Director Ivan Reitman gave her a basic idea of what the story was about, but she has not read the script yet. So until official script details are revealed, this is still speculation. As of right now, I would take this as a credible possibility that Murray could return as a ghost or become one in the film. As far as her comments on Dana Barrett’s son Oscar in the movie, I would say that, although it’s not official, it is highly likely that what she said about him being a grown up Ghostbuster is true. She just sounds much more confident about that detail.
Update: If you were unable to view the video, here are the main excerpts from the interview:
Regarding Bill Murray as a ghost in Ghostbusters 3:
“I don’t know. He could come back as a sort of Slimer character.”
Regarding the script and the character of Dana Barrett and her son Oscar:
“I haven’t read the script. They’re sending me the script. I guess my little son Oscar who was kidnapped is a Ghostbuster, which makes me very proud. So [director] Ivan Reitman called me the other day and said he would love me to take a look at it. In a few weeks I’ll actually know what it is, though I probably won’t be able to talk about it.”
