In an interview with The Daily Beast, David Duchovny talks about his newest TV show, Californication, his literary ambitions, etc. But he also gives his thoughts on the last X-Files film and what he thinks about doing another one!
Concerning the last film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Duchovny was quite positive despite its lackluster box office results:
“I was happy with it… I have nothing but respect for [X-Files creator] Chris Carter and the writing staff.”
He goes on to talk about making a third X-Files film. He is definitely open to it and wants to see it go where most X-Philes want to see it go:
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”
I am so glad that The X-Files is actually getting some publicity, despite being off the air for seven years and having somewhat of a box office dud last year at the movies with I Want to Believe (even thought it wasn’t actually that bad of a film). Hopefully they will push forward soon with this return to the mythology that X-Philes treasure so much.
I really don’t even think they need to wait until 2012 to make it. They could just have it take place in 2012, when alien colonization is set to happen.
