Leonard Nimoy, who recently reprised his role as “Spock” in the latest Star Trek film, has come forward in an interview (contains SPOILERS) with Starlog about his character “William Bell” on the hit TV Series Fringe. He has quite a bit to say!
Fringe has slowly become one of the most interesting television shows for me in the last year, and the new season is showing much promise and seems to finally know what direction it wants to go in. Leonard Nimoy’s appearance as William Bell was quite a surprise, as we had only until now heard his name referred to throughout the first season as the guy supposedly responsible for all the bad (and odd) shenanigans going on throughout the series that Agent Olivia Dunham and Peter and Walter Bishop have been investigating in the “Fringe” division (or “X-Designation”).
The character of William Bell is the type of character who you don’t quite know if you can trust or not. It is a character that I feel has the potential to be the next “Cigarette-Smoking Man” in a way (CSM was main villain from The X-Files – a show that Fringe is endlessly compared to). Even though CSM was the villain, sometimes he made you wonder if perhaps he might not be all that bad – that perhaps you may actually be able to trust him. Leonard Nimoy is the perfect actor to pull off this kind of a role – one that has the potential to be just as iconic as good ol’ Mr. Spock. Perhaps Nimoy can finally have another character in pop culture that he can be commonly associated with!
