Fans of the Ghostbusters franchise have all been wondering about the details concerning the third movie due out in 2012. We know that the original cast will play mentors to a new team of Ghostbusters and the torch will be passed down to them. That’s really all we have found out, until now. We have a little more news on both the story and Ivan Reitman’s involvement with the project… just a little…
According to Bloody-Disgusting, Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two Ghostbusters films, is 100% on board for this film. However, he has not decided if he actually wants to direct the movie yet. So he may only produce. Hopefully he has a lot of creative control in whatever role he chooses to take in making this movie, as he was a big reason for the magic behind what made the first two films so funny and enjoyable (especially the first one).
Also, a tiny bit more on the film’s plot has been revealed at Bloody-Disgusting:
Apparently, the sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers “reopen” their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years.
Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis have all apparently confirmed their involvement in various interviews on the web. I thought I heard that Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis wouldn’t be in it, but according to Bloody-Disgusting that is not the case and all the original cast members are attached to the film in some capacity.
This is one of those films that could end up being really good, or fall flat on its face. I grew up with Ghostbusters so this means a lot to me that they are making this movie. I hope they get it right.
