This is the start of the “moment of truth” as it pertains to the new Nightmare on Elm Street remake not starring Robert Englund (the original Freddy Krueger), but rather Jackie Earle Haley (“Rorschach” from this year’s Watchmen film). Check it out after the jump.
A Nightmare on Elm Street in HD
I have to say, as a fan of the original film, this trailer does look good. Only time will tell whether or not Jackie Earle Haley’s performance will hold up against Robert Englund’s from the previous Nightmare movies. Personally, I think Haley should make it his own, while still honoring what has come before, which it looks like that is exactly what he is doing.
It is interesting what Freddy shouts out to the mob in the beginning of the trailer: “What do you think I did?! I didn’t do anything!” Does this mean Fred Krueger actually starts out innocent this time around? In the original he was just a plain evil child killer. It’ll be fascinating to see where they go with this.
It is nice to see some scenes redone from the original film, such as the bathtub scene and the chick floating above the bed. It also appears that the main concept of Freddy invading your dreams remains in tact for this version. And lastly, what we do see of the make-up job definitely is different, but it looks like they are going for a more realistic “burn victim” look, which might be pretty cool.
After 25 years, is it time that this classic horror film be remade? Does it need to be? Personally, I don’t think it needs to be, as the original holds up quite well in my opinion. But it might just be pretty cool to see what they do with this new take on the creepy dream master, so I’m up for it.
