At the Book of Eli panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Gary Oldman (who played Commissioner Gordon in the last two Batman films) had this to say about the next Batman movie:
“I think the next Batman is next year…“We start shooting next year. You didn’t hear that from me.”
According to people who were there, such as Alex Billington from FirstShowing.Net and Peter Sciretta from /Film, Gary Oldman seemed quite sincere when he said this at the panel. However, there has been no official word as to whether or not director Christopher Nolan has even signed on or if there is a complete script written yet.
As of right now, I would not take this as official confirmation, but it is definitely a possibility now. Nolan will be finishing up his latest film, Inception at the end of the year, so perhaps filming for the third Batman movie could start soon after that. However, nothing is official until we hear from Warner Brothers, Nolan, etc.
Update: Quint from Aint It Cool News followed up with Gary Oldman after the panel about his Batman statement. Here’s the quote from AICN:
“I just interviewed Oldman and he back-peddled a bit on it, going from sure to the movie filming next year on the panel to a more ‘well, I’m sure they want to do another one… it might 2 or 3 years…’ “
Hmm… looks like my first impression of the quote was correct. It’s not as clear cut as we all wanted it to be.
