It’s official! Marvel has announced that Natalie Portman has been cast in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor! She will be playing the character of Jane Foster, who is a nurse who becomes Thor’s first love in the popular comic book series.
The actress (made famous by her role in The Professional and, of course, the Star Wars prequels) will be joining Chris Hemsworth, who briefly played George Kirk, James T. Kirk’s father, in the latest Star Trek film.
Thor is one of many Marvel Comic characters who team up to form The Avengers, which is also being adapted into a film to be released May 4, 2012. Marvel has this to say about the upcoming Thor film:
This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Thor is set to be released on May 20, 2011. Click here for the rest of the article.
