In the last two years since Resident Evil: Extinction, it was thought by many of those involved with the franchise that there would be no new Resident Evil movie. But the last movie left the door wide open for a sequel, and it looks like we’ll be seeing more zombie-slaying goodness coming our way with a new 4th installment due September 17, 2010!
Paul W.S. Anderson, director of the first Resident Evil film and producer of its two sequels, has revealed that he is writing a treatment for a fourth film. Capcom is said to be getting involved as well as Sony. The movie’s current title is Resident Evil: Afterlife.
I personally loved the Resident Evil movies. They’re just good, escapist, zombie-killing fun. Since Extinction left the story wide open for a sequel, I naturally want to see this sequel come to life – the Afterlife! The ending of the last film had clones of the main character, Alice (Milla Jovovich) seeking out revenge on the Umbrella Corporation, so hopefully this news of a fourth film means that Jovovich will be back. No official confirmation yet on her return or whether Anderson will direct or even produce. We’ll see what happens as more details emerge.
