This has been reported before, but now it is official: ABC Network has picked up shows for the 2009-2010 season and has also green-lit new ones, one of them being a remake of V: The Miniseries!
This has been reported as a limited event series, much like the original four-hour miniseries from 1983 but perhaps longer. Maybe a length similar to Spielberg’s Taken 10-episode series from 2002? We have yet to hear more details about the length of the series or when exactly it will premiere. Warner Brothers TV will be producing.
The original Miniseries was about aliens landing on earth claiming peace but instead having another agenda that isn’t quite so peaceful. Eventually the world is run by these aliens in a totalitarian fashion, and underground rebels join forces to fight back.
According to Ilana’s V Celebrity Site, Kenneth Johnson, creator of the original Minseries and author of V: The Original Minseries adaptation and V: The Second Generation, is also currently working on a film feature of his original miniseries as well as a sequel adapted from The Second Generation Novel. These will be his own creations and will not necessarily reflect what will be in the new TV version.
Whatever the case, more V is on the way!!!!
Update: Ilana’s spies are reporting that the new TV “limited event” series may get 12 episodes.
Update 2: ABC has posted an official synopsis and has announced that this series will be either in the Fall or Midseason:
“V” is a re-imagining of the 1980’s miniseries about the world’s first encounter with an alien race in which the aliens call themselves The Visitors, and have a seemingly friendly agenda that may or may not be a cover for something more malevolent.
“V” stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch as Father Jack Landry, Lourdes Benedicto as Valerie Stevens, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin as Anna and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker.
The series is produced by HDFilms in association with Warner Bros. Television. Scott Peters is executive producer/writer and Steve Pearlman and Jace Hall are executive producers. The pilot was directed and executive produced by Yves Simoneau.
