It Came From Outer Space!!! Along with movies like The Day the Earth Stood Still and War of the Worlds (the original films from the 50s), It Came From Outer Space was another one of R.W. Goodwin’s inspirations for his new movie Alien Trespass (currently in limited release).
This movie along with many other 50s sci-fi films appear cheesy by today’s standards, but were top quality back when they were released. The filmmakers of these movies took them seriously, which is how R.W. Goodwin (former X-Files episode director) approached Alien Trespass. He wanted the feel of those old movies, but not to come off like a spoof or remake.
I’m really interested in seeing Alien Trespass (it is not currently playing near me at all), since I absolutely love old sci-fi movies. Not only are they entertaining to watch, but they put things into perspective when viewing modern special effects movies. They help me realize just how good we have it today and help me not get so nitpicky when a piece of CGI work in a modern movie isn’t rendered as well as it could’ve been. The director’s of the 50s special effects movies would’ve killed to be able to create what we can create today with CGI.
It Came From Outer Space is definitely a movie every sci-fi buff should see. It’s got a space ship, one-eyed aliens, aliens disguised as humans, etc. It’s one of the better films of its genre. Too bad it’s not available in its original 3-D format!
I really hope I get to see Alien Trespass in the theater. I absolutely love this genre of film and it makes this X-Files and 50s sci-fi fan very happy that R.W. Goodwin has made a movie like this.
